Jan-Pro Calgary successfully completes its project of building an in-house datacenter by enabling shared storage redundancy with StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN)
CHALLENGE
Before deploying StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN), Jan- Pro Calgary operated with a single office and a modest IT setup, relying on a standalone server running on an HPE ProLiant DL360 G5. As the business expanded across Western Canada, all offices remained connected to the original server, leading to growing concerns about storage capacity and redundancy.
Instead of moving to the cloud, Jan-Pro Calgary decided to build its own datacenter. However, with a limited budget, enterprise solutions from major vendors were not an option. The biggest challenge was establishing shared storage redundancy in a cost-effective manner, as Microsoft’s built-in tools did not support the necessary local storage sharing.
StarWind is the best storage product I have ever used! It satisfies and exceeds requirements.

SOLUTION
StarWind VSAN was the key to completing Jan-Pro Calgary’s two-node Hyper-V failover cluster with fully redundant shared storage. Competing solutions were either too expensive or unreliable, making StarWind the only viable choice. The deployment ensured that both compute and storage layers had failover capabilities.
When a RAID 5 storage server suffered a dual-drive failure, the production environment remained unaffected, proving the effectiveness of the solution. By choosing StarWind, Jan-Pro Calgary successfully built a reliable, high-availability infrastructure without doubling hardware costs, ultimately saving around $20,000.
